Note: this coyote was beginning to yawn in this picture - it was not barring its teeth to threaten as it might appear from this frame. I have included two other photos - one at the peak of the yawn and one afterwards to make this clear.

This is not the coyote I normally see. This coyote was bulkier, fur a little unkempt, had more white/light gray fur, and was less tolerant of people. It was accompanied by a mate with some lameness in the rear legs. While the coyote I am used to will pass me on my walk, keeping a wide berth between us, this one just kept heading straight towards me, forcing me to turn around and go back as it and its mate followed. All photos were taken with a long lens so there was more distance between us it appears.
